Peter and Annie Surman farm as a family partnership at Ryall's Court, Upton-on-Severn, South Worcestershire. The farm totals about 400 hectares (960 acres) and all is fully converted to organic production and registered with Organic Farmers and Growers. It is situated in the fertile river Severn valley in the shadow of the Malvern Hills. There is a dairy herd of about 200 pedigree cows producing organic milk that is sold to a local dairy and a beef suckler herd of 90 cows devoted to production of organic beef. The farm carries four pedigree Aberdeen Angus bulls and two pedigree Blonde d'Aquitane bulls.
Peter is the third generation to farm at Ryall's Court, his grandfather having moved to Upton-on-Severn in 1896 from a similar farm situated by the river in Gloucestershire about 15 downstream! Peter and Annie have four grown up children but none, yet, in the business!
