Organic Wine

What is Organic Wine?

Organic wines are produced, like other organic products, with minimal use artificial chemicals, pesticides and fertilisers.
Organic wines are also more honest with your taste buds, because they haven't been "standardised" for the market by chemical adulteration. As a result they reflect the character of their regions better.

With the lack of chemical toxins, it is hardly surprising that bad hangovers and allergic reactions tend to be lessened with organic wines.

Sulphur & Organic Wines

Sulphur products are used to preserve wines in bottle and to stop them from going off. Organic wines, in general, have low sulphur levels, which can be as much as 80% less than in conventionally made wines. Those wines made according to biodynamic principals will also have very minimal amounts of added sulphur.
Sulphur has been added to wine since the Greeks started making it thousands of years ago, and despite many valiant attempts to make wine entirely without it, wines which are completely sulphur free are generally very volatile, poor tasting and with extremely limited shelf-life. In the USA the definition of an 'organic wine' is one that is made entirely without sulphur. Again, they are rarely seen in the UK as as result of the difficulty in exporting them to the UK in a 'fit state' for consumption.
We would always recommend that people who are sulphur intolerant avoid wine or they try wines which are made biodynamically. The wines from Robinvale are pasteurised and as such are very low in sulphur. Of course, each customer has to be aware that they try these wines at their own risk!
