The Awards
Dorset Pastry won many awards for the quality of its pastry.
The Quality
Dorset Pastry uses the time consuming traditional methods of hand folding, turning and resting. The product is GM free and does not contain any additives or preservatives. Ingredients are sourced locally from the South West of England where possible. It is frozen and uncooked.
The History behind the Pastry
Moira Blake was previously a photographer and presently the Managing Director of Dorset Pastry. When asked by her friends what they might bring her back from their holidays, her reply was never perfume but always Puff Pastry.
Recognising the niche in the market, she researched and found out that butter pastry was particularly enjoyed in the Edwardian era, but fell from favour because of the effects of two world wars where lard was used. This was followed by mass food production. It is often thought that the French and Viennese produce the best butter pastry. However, the use of butter in pastry has appeared in Traditional British Cookery Books e.g. Mrs. Beeton and Elizabeth David who have been the cornerstones of Traditional British Cookery. Moira believes that by sourcing local ingredients, hand folding and resting the pastry in the traditional manner, Dorset Pastry could produce a British Product which could equal or better any other pastry internationally.

There be some that to this paste add sugar, but it is certain to hinder the rising thereof."

The Pastry Range
Fine Pure Butter Puff Pastry
The flagship of dorset pastry is a full Puff consisting of over 700 laminations. The Butter matured to enhance the tase of the pastry which is hand folded and rested in the traditional manner to maintain optimum quality.
Cumin Seed Pastry
The cumin seed pastry is savoury flaky pastry made from cumin seeds which have been toasted to produce a mellow nutty flavour.
Cheese Pastry
The Cheese Pastry is a flaky pastry made from an award winning local cheese.
Sundried Tomato Pastry
The Sundried Tomato Pastry is a savoury flaky pastry made from top quality organic tomatoes, which imparts an attractive rich marble colour.
Shortcrust Butter Pastry
The Shortcrust butter pastry has a buttery, crisp and melt in the mouth quality.
