N & R Fromant
Bryngwyn, mid-Wales
The Fromant family farm lies in the uplands of east Radnorshire in mid-Wales, and nestles in its own valley between the heather moorlands of the area, three quarters of a miles from the tarmac road.
Shan Fromant describes the farming : "Our flock of 260 ewes run between two small farms and up onto open hill grazing areas. Shepherding the flock is a family occupation and our three children are always keen to lend a hand, especially at lambing time in April. Many of the ewes are known individually, having been born on the farm, and their life history is often recounted!"
A small herd of pedigree Welsh Black cattle is also kept, but nowadays the main part of the business is the propagation of soft fruit plants which are grown in rotation with the livestock fields, selling organic plants to gardeners and growers all over the country.
