Mr & Mrs Williams-Wynne
Pennant,near Tywyn, north Wales
Pennant means "Head of the Stream". It is part of the Peniarth Estate, and has been cared for by the Williams-Wynne family since 1414. It is run by Goronwy Wyn Williams, who has worked this 1400 acre mountain since he was 14 years old, latterly with the help of his wife Gwen.
The farm runs from thevery top of Cader Idris, cascading westwards down towards Cardigan Bay.

Every year, 150,000 people undertake the challenge of reaching its summit.

The land is so harsh that it can only support 640 Hardy Welsh Mountain ewes, which are very hardy and require no suplementary feeding. Indeed, it is the natural herbage - the heather, bilberry - and the sparkling mountain water that bequeath their special flavour to these small hill lambs.
The farm will complete the process of organic conversion in September 2002.
The estate has a number of visitor attractions other than the walk to the top of Cader Idris. These include a caravan park and fishing. For details see : www.peniarth.com.
