Kevin & Kate Thomas
Gyffog

Gyffog is farmed by Kevin and Kate Thomas and their four young children. The farm is 69 acres and stands in Bran valley 9-mile north west of Brecon. The land rises from 700 feet at its lowest point to over 1,100 feet where it joins the Epynt common. The farm is adjacent to a wooded Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which is listed for it’s rare species of vole and other features of interest. The wood probably gives an insight into the origin of the name of the farm, “Y Cyffylog” being the welsh word for the Woodcock.

The farm is a mixed livestock farm with Beulah Speckleface ewes put to a Texel ram and pedigree Welsh Black Cattle.
In addition to promoting environmental best practice through organic farming methods the farm is also part of the Tir Gofal environmental scheme run by the Countryside Council for Wales. This scheme will allow many of the traditional field boundaries of this small family farm to be maintained as well as promoting other conservation benefits.
