Cwmllechwedd Fawr, Radnorshire

Cwmllechwedd Fawr is a hill farm – starting at 330m (1100 ft) above sea level – of just over 44 hectares (108 acres) in the northern part of the former county of Radnorshire, now part of Powys.

A traditional livestock farm, raising sheep and cattle, it was registered with the Soil Association as Organic in 2001. The Cwmllechwedd Fawr herd of pedigree Welsh Black Cattle was established in 1987. In September 2000 Cwmllechwedd entered Tir Gofal (the Welsh countryside stewardship scheme) and we have undertaken a comprehensive programme of hedge restoration and tree planting as well as managing the land in an environmentally sensitive manner.

Cwmllechwedd is farmed by John Underwood, who fled from London to this part of Wales in 1985.
