Graig Barn Farm

near Crickhowell, Powys

John and Margaret describe their farm and other interests:

Graig Barn is a 70 acre organic farm nestling in the Black Mountains with magnificent views over the Usk valley half a mile from the town of Crickhowell. The area is in the south western part of the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The farm is home to a pedigree herd of Murray Grey cattle. These cattle are renowned for their docile temperament and their ability to fatten off grass which makes them ideal for an organic farm.

The Murray Grey breed originated in Australia from cattle exported from Britain and other areas. The breed has evolved from the Aberdeen Angus and retains its fine meat quality. The meat is well marbled which gives excellent flavour.

Murray Grey cows are being increasingly used across the world but particularly in Britain for rearing beef cattle.

The farm also produces organic apple juice, which is available through Graig Farm Organics. This juice is made from single variety apples taken from old organic orchards. Many of the trees were planted by John’s grandfather and produce some rare variety juice such as Monmouth Green and Tom Putt. We are always looking for rare varieties to add to our organic range, at present we make approx 50 varieties .

The farm offers 5-star self catering holiday accommodation in a recently completed barn conversion to two luxury independent apartments which can be let separately (unit I sleeps 6, unit 2 sleeps 4) or booked jointly to accommodate a group of up to 10 people. The accommodation is part of Graig Farm Organic's organic farm accommodation service. Graig Barn Farm has a full page of information on their accommodation.
