Goat Range

"I ordered Friday to take a yearling goat, betwixt a kid and a goat, out of my particular flock to be killed, when I cut off the hind quarter, and, chopping it into small pieces, I set Friday to work to boiling and stewing, and may have a very good dish, I assure you, of flesh and broth, having some barley and rice also into the broth."

Daniel Defoe - Robinson Crusoe

"The meat of a spayed goat of six or seven years is reckoned the best; being generally very sweet and fat. This makes an excellent pasty; goes under the name of Rock Venison, and is little inferior to that of deer. Thus nature provides even on the tops of high and craggy mountains, not only the necessaries, but delicacies for the inhabitants."

G. Markham The English Hus-wife - 1615
