Allan & Sandra Payne
Hazelcroft, Herefordshire

Allan and Sandra Payne describe their farm :
We have been registered with the Soil Association here at Hazelcroft here for 10 years.
The holding totals 17 acres and comprises of several different enterprises. Glasshouse and polytunnel production totals 3 acres, cropping tomatoes, cues, peppers, exotic salads and celery, amongst many others throughout the year. We also supply young vegetable transplants raised in blocks, pots and modules to other commercial growers around the country, totalling up to 1.5 million plants per year.
The remaining 14 acres is mainly pasture land with a small amount of outdoor vegetable production. Polytunnels at Hazelcroft
Our cattle form part of the rotation and help to provide us with a source of manure for the indoor crops. We started with 2 Hereford Friesian cows and have kept some of their daughters to build us up to 6. We use a Hereford bull, and the heifers have an Angus bull for easier calving. All calves stay with their mothers in the herd until slaughter.
